Wise Penny Internship

This community outreach focuses on mentoring four qualified women within the Govans community through two 12-week internship cycles (one fall, one spring) at the Junior League owned Wise Penny Thrift Store. Throughout the program, the interns will receive on-the- job training in store management, sales, inventory, and customer service as well as one-on-one mentoring to help them set their goals and achieve them. On-the-job training and supervision will be provided by the Wise Penny Store Supervisor and Wise Penny Committee Chair. The mentoring of the Interns toward personal career goals will be provided by the Mentor. The goal of the program is not only to provide job readiness training but also to help these women maximize their internship by turning their experience at the Wise Penny into a meaningful steppingstone for future career opportunities. The Mentor's primary role is to help the Intern meet concrete progress toward a career goal by the end of the Internship (secure a permanent job, etc).

"I don't have the words to describe how grateful I am... The people (co-workers) at the Wise Penny gave so much to me.
They were like family."
Assetou Kabre-Compaore, 2007-2008 Wise Penny Intern.
