Kids in the Kitchen

The Kids in the Kitchen (KITK) Program is part of an international Junior League initiative to combat childhood obesity. It launched in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom in 2006, addresses the staggering statistic that nearly one-third of children and adolescents in North and South America are at an increased risk of developing Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, numerous ailments related to high cholesterol and social problems that are related to having low self-esteem.

The Junior League of Baltimore hosted a FREE, 5-week workshop for selected 4th and 5th grade students. Each workshop consisted of an interactive nutrition activity, a healthy snack, and a physical activity challenge. All activities were designed to be both fun and interactive while teaching the kids valuable lessons about living a healthy lifestyle. Most importantly, the curriculum offers families inexpensive and practical advice which may easily be implemented into their daily lives without requiring special equipment or access to specialty stores.
