Junior League of Baltimore 110th Anniversary 10-for-10 Influential Women Speaker Series #3 (6:30-8:30pm)

Thursday, November 17, 2022

Join the Junior League of Baltimore (JLB) as we celebrate our 110th Anniversary and several influential women in the Greater Baltimore Area. From September through May, the Community Impact Council will host a reception and themed panel honoring local women who have overcome barriers, had tremendous success(es), and are committed to service in the Baltimore community.

“Let future generations say we were the ones who stood up. Let them say we were the first to live in a world where all girls can learn and lead without fear.” —Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani Activist and Nobel Prize Laureate

In the US, women are 51% of the population, but make up only: 28% of Congress at large; 24% of the U.S. Senate; 28% of the U.S. House of Representatives; 0% of presidents of the United States; 31% of statewide elected executives of any kind; 31% of state legislators; 31% of the largest cities’ mayors; and 25% of mayors in cities with populations over 30,000. For certain demographics, the numbers are even worse. Women of color, Republican women, young women, and low-income women are especially underrepresented. In 2022, women of color only make up: 10% of the total members of Congress; 36% of the women serving in Congress; 9% of total state legislators; 28% of all female state legislators; and 14% of mayors in the nation’s 100 largest cities. In 2022, Republican women only make up: 28% of women Congressional members; 33% of women serving in the U.S. Senate; 27% of women serving in the U.S. House; 33% of women serving as governors; and 33% of women state legislators. Fresh off of several high stakes elections across the country, meet several notable Maryland female politicians, hear about their political journeys, the best way to advocate for causes important to you, and why we should care about a lack of women in politics.

To support our commitment to addressing food insecurity and period poverty in the Baltimore area, we will be collecting non-perishable goods and/or menstruation products at each event. Please bring unopened donations or feel free to donate by purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist.

Please reach out to Casey Brent, Fundraising VP, with any questions (communityvp@jlbalt.org). To maintain a responsible and safe environment, we are requiring attendees to wear masks.
