It is with great sadness that we share the news that Elizabeth “Betsy” McDonald passed away on April 5, 2022.  Betsy was a long-time member of the Junior League of Baltimore and served as President from 1967 to 1969.  She was known both in the League and throughout the community for her extraordinary commitment and service.  In addition to the JLB, Betsy supported organizations throughout Baltimore including Gilman School, where she taught first graders for over 24 years, and our JLB neighbor Govans Elementary, where Betsy volunteered during her retirement.  In recognition of her continued support of the League, Betsy was the recipient of the 2010 Peggy Waxter Sustainer Spirit Award.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Etchison McDonald, and their three children, John E. McDonald, Jr., Elizabeth M. Peard, and David G. McDonald and their spouses, as well as nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Also surviving are brothers John C. Seiler and Lewis P. Seiler, Jr. of Louisville, KY, and Roy, a beloved Labrador Retriever.

A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, on Friday, April 29 at 11:00 am.
